- Product Features
- Liquid additive for waterborne coatings. Reacts with metal cations to form stable organic complexes chemically bonded on the metal substrates, providing a stable and effective chemical passivation.
- Ready-to-use and easy to incorporate liquid
- Compatible with most waterbased binders
- Eco-friendly additive (Complies with main environmental-friendly labels)
- Synergic action with antiflash-rust additives
- Doesn’t change color of coatings
Applications & Uses

- Coating End Applications
- Product Application
- ASCOTRUST® X3 is added to waterborne coatings directly applied on rusted or poor-prepared ferrous substrates. It ensures an effective blocking effect on residual rust, and avoids its migration through the fresh paint film.
- Its passivation properties on rust allow to maintain good anticorrosion performances of the coatings, despite the adverse substrate conditions.
- It doesn’t compromise the coating anticorrosion performance on non-rusted substrates.
- ASCOTRUST® X3 is mainly designed for waterborne white or colored pigmented coatings, based on various binder technologies: acrylic, alkyd, epoxy, PU.
- It is recommended to use an organic-type anticorrosion agent when ASCOTRUST® X3 is added to a metal paint formulation.
- Dosage
ASCOTRUST® X3 is preferably added at the last manufacturing step (post-addition).
- In 2K PU systems: should be added into the resin part.
- In 2K Epoxy systems: preliminary tests should be performed to determine in which part ASCOTRUST-X3 should be added.
Indicative use dosages (% of total coating weight) :
- 1 to 3% depending on the coating formulation. The dosage can reach 5% into primers or one coat systems, applied on highly reactive rusted substrates, at low DFT (<40-50 μm). It is advisable to determine the optimum amount by a laboratory test.
