Afcona 3581

• Afcona – 3581 is the 50% solid version of Afcona – 3580, an organically modified polysiloxane with very short chain repeatable units of siloxane. These small molecules allow it to move very quickly to an area of defects. This offers very good anti-crater properties without causing intercoat adhesion problems.
• Afcona – 3581 is widely used in electroplating and electrodeposition coatings to prevent crater formation. It also offers good leveling and a smooth appearance in the finished coating. It is not itself an ionic structure; it may be used in anionic and cationic systems.

The use of Afcona-3581 gives the following advantages:

• Excellent anti-crater behavior
• Improved leveling
• Better substrate wetting
• No intercoat adhesion problems
• Little or no foam stabilization

Note: Due to its small molecules, the slip performance of Afcona-3581 is reduced.

Afcona-3581 is recommended for use in all types of waterbased coatings with a pH range of 4 - 10.

Afcona-3581 may be added at 0.1 - 1.0% based on total formulation. Under normal conditions, 0.1 – 0.3% based on total formulation is sufficient.Afcona-3581 may be added at 0.1 - 1.0% based on total formulation. Under normal conditions, 0.1 – 0.3% based on total formulation is sufficient.

Afcona-3581 should be added prior to, or after processing.
