Afcona 3236

Afcona-3236 is an alkyl-modified polysiloxane that offers good slip and leveling properties. Unlike most organically modified polysiloxanes, this product also acts as a defoamer and will not stabilize foam in most systems. This makes Afcona-3236 especially suitable for foam-sensitive applications like floor coatings and high-build systems.

• Afcona-3236 is recommended for use in the foam-sensitive systems listed below:
  • Solvent-free epoxies
  • High Solid or solvent-free polyurethanes
  • Paints applied by curtain coater
  • Paints applied by airless spray
  • UV curing systems
• Afcona-3236 also acts as good defoamer and slip agent for heat-cured paints, especially coil coatings. It offers high temperature resistance - up to 280°C for 15 minutes.
• Afcona – 3236 is also used in wood coatings because of its good defoaming and slip performance. This product is not recommended in high gloss clear coats because it may cause slight in-can haziness.

Afcona-3236 may be added at 0.05 – 0.50% based on total formulation. Under normal conditions, 0.05 – 0.2% based on total formulation is sufficient.

Afcona-3236 may be added at any stage of production process. However, high shear force is required to add it in the letdown stage due to the defoaming property. For easier incorporation, dilute to 10% in any solvent(s).
