Product Uses

Use of Pangel® OM4 as a rheological additive is recommended in the following applications:

  • Anticorrosive coatings
  • Solvent asphalt coatings
  • Bituminous undercoats
  • Waterproofing and Pavement repair
  • It requires the use of a polar activator at 30 - 60% on clay basis. This will normally be mixed with 5% of water in the mix
Polar Activator Role
  • Pangel® OM4 require the use of a polar activator at 30-60% on clay basis. This will normally be mixed with 5% of water in the mix. They are used for promoting the aggregation of bentonite platelets.
  • Polar activators are used when a pregel is made. Pregel normal concentration is between 5-6% clay concentration in solvent.

Recommended polar activator (based on Pangel® OM4 weight)

Metanol/H₂0 (95:5) 33%
Ethanol/H₂0 (95:5) 50%
Acetone/H₂0 (95:5) 60%
Propylene carbonate/H₂0 (95:5) 33%
