- Product Applications
- Chlorothalonil is one of the most important fungicidal chemicals in the world. This extremely versatile compound is widely used in agriculture (where it protects crops against the ravages of fungal plant diseases), and also for the protection of paints and coatings, wood and wood composite products, adhesives, grouts, and caulks/sealants to protect against biodeterioration caused by a wide range of fungi.
- Biotrend® CTL98-P is registered by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the protection of the following applications: latex emulsion paints, stains, and coatings, solvent-based exterior coatings, adhesives, caulks and sealants, grouts, and composite wood products (including wood-thermoplastic composites (WPC’s).

Chlorothalonil may not be compatible with all formulation components. Before commercial use and introduction, formulations incorporating Biotrend® CTL products should be fully evaluated for efficacy, compatibility, and stability. In general, Biotrend® CTL products should be incorporated near the end of the manufacturing cycle. Incompatibility may be indicated by loss of efficacy, color changes, changes in viscosity and/or pH, and reduced storage stability. Under certain conditions, the use of chlorothalonil may contribute to the chalking of dark-colored paints. In paints and coatings, color stability should be checked using both heat-aging and real-life exposure conditions.
- Light Stability
Chlorothalonil is stable to ultraviolet radiation in aqueous media and in the crystalline state.
