Product Features
  • Afcona – 2050 offers very strong defoaming and anti-foam performance with good compatibility in many resin systems.
  • Afcona-2050 is suitable for solvent-based coatings, printing inks and thermosetting resin systems. It eliminates foam and blistering, regardless of whether the air bubbles are caused by the substrate.
  • In most cases, the de-aeration performance of Afcona-2050 is satisfactory. If greater de- aeration is required, use this product in combination with silicone-containing defoamers such as Afcona-2023 or Afcona-2045 at 0.1-0.2%.

Product Applications

Afcona-2050 is particularly suitable for use in the following applications:

  • Nitrocellulose lacquers and acid-cured wood finishes, especially those applied by curtain coaters.
  • Two-component polyurethane lacquers that are applied by spraying or brushing (except for high gloss clear due to the defoamer’s high incompatibility).
  • Cold-cured epoxy resin systems, as well as unsaturated polyester systems (SMC, BMC and gel coats).
  • Heat-cured finishes applied by curtain coater and dipping.
  • Other solvent based system where in- can transparency is not important, such as colored and matte systems.

Not suitable for air-dry alkyd systems.

Incorporation

As a strong defoaming agent, Afcona- 2050 should be incorporated during pre-mix. If added subsequently, good dispersion must be ensured.
