Product Features
  • Afcona – 2020 is a very strong defoamer for most solvent-based systems, even at low dosages. Strong defoamers work because of their strong incompatibility with the coating system; therefore, even low dosages of Afcona – 2020 may cause in-can haziness in high-gloss clear coatings. However, its influence on gloss in the dry film is minimal.
  • Afcona-2020 is suitable for solvent-based coatings, printing inks and thermosetting resin systems. It eliminates foam and blistering, regardless of whether the air bubbles are caused by the substrate.
  • Afcona-2020 has very high defoaming performance as well as anti-foam properties. In most cases, its de-aeration performance is satisfactory. To further improve de-aeration, use in combination with silicone defoamers like Afcona-2023 or Afcona-2045 (0.1-0.2% is recommended).

Product Applications

Afcona - 2020 is especially suitable for use in the following applications:

  • Nitrocellulose lacquers and acid-cured wood finishes, especially those applied by curtain coaters.
  • Two-component polyurethane lacquers that are applied by spraying or brushing (not including high-gloss finishes).
  • Cold cured epoxy resin systems, as well as unsaturated polyester systems (SMC, BMC, and gel coats).
  • Heat cured systems applied by curtain coater or dipping 5) Any solvent-based system where in-can transparency is not important, such as colored or low-gloss systems.
Incorporation

As a strong defoaming agent, Afcona - 2020 is should be incorporated during pre-mix. If added subsequently, adequate dispersion must be ensured.
